Here lie the scattered thoughts, loose memories, and distant remains of a bygone me.

Standing in line to buy tickets to see Les Mis in London, a man in front of us, tall with a long brown coat, was asking for the cheapest tickets available. “It doesn’t matter if they’re the worst seats in the house. I don’t need to see anything. I just need to hear the music.”

I know that feel. Ahhh so incredibly excited for 8/14. The American cast sounds phenomenal.

Books!

A series of serious book choices:

  1. The Little Prince: Hardcover($10) or special edition pop up($22)?
  2. The Phantom Tollbooth: Paperback($7) or 50th anniversary hardcover ($14)?
  3. Les Miserables: Paperback($9) or hardcover ($21)?

Choices, choices. I’m definitely bringing The Little Prince to college with me, and I’ll be accessing it quite often. I probably won’t be doing that much with The Phantom Tollbooth and Les Miserables though after the initial annotation process.

Please help me choose?

15. Favorite scene

Cosette uttered a heartrending cry.

“Father! my father! you will live. You are going to live. I insist upon your living, do you hear?”

Jean Valjean raised his head towards her with adoration.

“Oh! yes, forbid me to die. Who knows? Perhaps I shall obey.

ALL THE CREYS.

26. Have you ever tried reading the novel in its original french?

My French is limited to “Paris” and “oui.” It may be slightly difficult to read the original text.

1. How did you discover the brick?

Through the 25th anniversary concert which I first caught of glimpse of during band at Del Mar.

25. Which do you prefer: the novel, the musical, or another adaptation?

Novel. As much as I like the musical, Hugo conveys more thoughtful analysis and develops the characters more. His tangents supply a crucial background and makes the story much more meaningful by depth to it.

Let me choose a few, please!

The artistic sentiment is not merely served, but completed by the scientific organ; dream must calculate.” (I’ve always loved the intersection between the arts and sciences. Hugo says it in such a beautiful way too.)

Strangely, the infinite is enough for them.” (There was a whole paragraph on this, and it was so beautiful. ;____;)

“Dreamers like Marius have these extreme depressions, and dire decisions come out of them.” (I like all the quotes that refer to these “dreamers”, because they’re not completely naive, yet not cynical. It just seems to describe the adolescent experience in a more eloquent and beautiful way.)

“The dawn awakens minds as well as birds.” (Daily motivation to wake up early.)
