Pitch Perfect (9/21)

Tonight (yesterday night?) was the prescreening of Pitch Perfect at the Granoff Center on campus, which by the way, it absolutely beautifully designed. I didn’t think I was going to get in, because it was a ticketed event, but some random girl ended up giving me an extra ticket!

The movie itself was interesting. In short, it felt like a singing version of Step Up. The vocals were great. Anna Kendrick & cast sound so good throughout, but the plot wasn’t the best. Let me rephrase—there’s not so much plot as individual conflicts. But what makes the entire movie come together is the fact that it ties together all the conflicts at some point, and resolves them in a (cliche) way.

Pitch Perfect is undoubtedly hilarious, and for the most part, Rebel Wilson makes that happen. But I wish there were more character development. Not much is said about the individuals on the team other than Beca, and even with Beca, we don’t get much further than skin deep.

Though a crowd-pleaser with its singing, attractive cast (oh, Skylar Astin), and humor, Pitch Perfect didn’t live up to my expectations after hearing so many good reviews about it on the internet.

I’m not too sure how this will do once it’s mass released. Who am I kidding? Everyone’s going to love it, because it’s hilarious and musical.
