Is Algebra Necessary? →
In the article “Is Algebra Necessary?”, Andrew Hacker tries to convince readers that educators should remove algebra from their graduation requirements, because it is impeding students from academic success.
Shirley Bagwell, a longtime Tennessee teacher, warns that “to expect all students to master algebra will cause more students to drop out.” For those who stay in school, there are...

Foolish
I don’t understand why people are so inconsiderate. I don’t understand why people mistake “different” for “inferior.” I don’t understand why people don’t want to acknowledge others as fellow human beings. I don’t understand why our Asian community makes us all elitist assholes who treat other people like shit. I don’t understand why we’re convinced that we are the best and brightest. I don’t...

Standing in line to buy tickets to see Les Mis in London, a man in front of us, tall with a long brown coat, was asking for the cheapest tickets available. “It doesn’t matter if they’re the worst seats in the house. I don’t need to see anything. I just need to hear the music.”
I know that feel. Ahhh so incredibly excited for 8/14. The American cast sounds phenomenal.

Rough day at work, but the kids are so God darn sweet. Some people need to learn how to read people better. Some need to learn to confront people while others need to be more passive aggressive.
Everyone (including me) should be nicer.
Learn to be more 轻快, 快乐, 乐观.

I don’t know what to do with this website any more. I want to record all of the mundane things I do, but then I also want this blog to represent all of the best things about me, to be a beautiful collective space for every good endeavor. It’s a shaky balance of both, and I say far too many nothings for me to like it at all.

Clarification
lulz gais. I am going to purchase all three novels on the previous post with book selections. I just don’t know whether to get the paperback/hardcover/special edition.
Help me choose between the different types! c:

Books!
A series of serious book choices:
The Little Prince: Hardcover($10) or special edition pop up($22)?
The Phantom Tollbooth: Paperback($7) or 50th anniversary hardcover ($14)?
Les Miserables: Paperback($9) or hardcover ($21)?
Choices, choices. I’m definitely bringing The Little Prince to college with me, and I’ll be accessing it quite often. I probably won’t be doing that much...

Loose Thoughts
Hanging opinions:
Running shorts are so nice. They make me feel like I’m not wearing pants. They are rivaling the comfort of pajamas and fuzzy socks.
Free tickets for Batman. Thanks in the form of $5. It feels good to do good.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt looked so good in The Dark Knight Rises. I actually made whale noises whenever he appeared, and oh my God, marry me please.
Anne Hathaway is...

Loury, Rich serve on NAS imprisonment panel →
The article describes the intersection of ethnicity, medicine, and incarceration. Absolutely fascinating material.
Just how high are the rates? The United States, with about 2.3 million people behind bars in 2011, had the world’s highest per capita rate — 752 inmates per 100,000 residents, according to Human Rights Watch. The racial disparities are startling. Among black men aged 30 to 34, the...

Good Day
TGIT. I haven’t looked forward to the weekend like this since the end of the school year.
Sushi lunch with Yifei & Eli. Pissy waitress though. I didn’t even realize Gokaku had so many customers.
Chill work. I ended up talking to Yifei & David more than anything else. (Well. Maybe not Tetris.)
Ranked up (twice!!) in Tetris.
Set the date for The Dark Knight Rises. I’m...

Autocorrect
I really hate it when autocorrect has to make things all intense and change my “lol” into “LOOL” and etc. I DON’T ACTUALLY THINK YOU’RE FUNNY ALRIGHT. AUTOCORRECT JUST HAD TO MAKE MY WORDS ALL MISLEADING AND ALL-CAPS.
Ugh.

I just “tried on” a bunch of hairstyles online, and God, some of these look ridiculous on me. Maybe I’m just not a pixie cut person. QQ However, I’m starting to really like some of these wavy bobs. * O *

this is upsetting;
often i misuse semicolons but I like how they look, you know? and i may yell bloody murder and mumble nonsense when i’m woken up but perhaps it could be endearing, one of those little foibles everyone passes over in the name of good humour? and maybe i’m a godforsaken lunatic, but please, could you adore me still?

Vegas: Part 2
Compilation of thoughts from the brief notes I made to myself in Notes from Saturday (6/30) and Sunday (7/1).
Thoughts:
The Strip: All the hotels on the Strip are so glitzy. Nothing feels real. It’s as if the entire city is a mirage and I don’t know whether to be disgusted by the illusion or be awed by how humans can construct a masterpiece out of a seemingly useless desert. Whose idea was it to...
