And the truth is that human interaction is scary for me, but I hate not having it and I don’t know if that makes me an introvert or an extrovert. I like the idea that labels are inane and vapidly useless, but the sad truth is that I like my world to fit into tidy black and white jars, and I hate that that’s the truth because I know that the world can’t

Hello from Vegas!
Collection of thoughts since I have short-term memory and I’ll never be able to remember everything by the time I get back home on Sunday. Pictures to come(?)
Thoughts (6/28):
Speeding: I got my first speeding ticket on Thursday afternoon when I was driving on 58. It was horrifying. In my defense, my parents were egging me to go faster and at one point I hit 90 and I felt like the world...

alife-apart:
I struggle to define myself. Halfway out of childhood yet unwilling to step into the adult world, I’m being forced out the womb head first, plunged into reality when I just got familiar with the friendly figures of imagination and freedom.
But who am I? This semi-child, not-yet-adult. This entity of matter that I constantly ponder over. Existentialist? Agnostic? Optimist?
“You...

The Man Who Forgot Ray Bradbury
I am forgetting things, which scares me.
I am losing words, although I am not losing concepts. I hope that I am not losing concepts. If I am losing concepts, I am not aware of it. If I am losing concepts, how would I know?
Which is funny, because my memory was always so good. Everything was in there. Sometimes my memory was so good that I even thought I could remember things I didn’t...

What Nora Ephron Taught Me About Love In The... →
fouldusts:
npr:
“Ephron wrote fairy tales that spun things that really happen – reconciliation over time, mysterious chemistry, complex and loaded friendships, love after grief and loss – into things that don’t happen, or don’t happen very much. But I always recognized in those stories pieces of people I knew and conversations I had had; they were like choral compositions where everything else...

BREAKING NEWS: Nora Ephron, writer and director... →
shortformblog:
Sad to hear. She ingrained herself in our culture like few have. Ephron died of complications from myelodysplasia, a blood disorder she was diagnosed with six years ago.
R.I.P. Nora Ephron. You’ve Got Mail will forever be one of my favorite movies of all time.

lampshade:
My girfriend is in love with Holden Caulfield and it is driving me CRAZY. She has read that book thirteen times, which is about eleven more times than she’s bothered to read me. Everything she sees now is PHONY. Starbucks is PHONY. Our teachers are PHONY. Society is PHONY. And love – well, love is the phoniest of all. At first I tried real hard to argue, but that made me one...

jtotheizzoe:
One of the most interesting Reddit threads I’ve seen in a while. Ever wondered what would happen if you allowed a game like Civilization II to continue into the year 3991 A.D?
War. Eternal war, full of death and chaos, all over scarce resources and among three remaining global nations. Check out the whole post here, and start stocking canned goods. There’s even a subreddit...

Holy. It’s hard to laugh quietly at B&N when this is so funny. The conclusion was priceless.

North by Northwestern: Dating with a deadline →
carrinacat:
I always thought that love was a trump card. No one ever wrote a song called “All You Need is a Summer Internship.” The Trojan War wasn’t fought over money or job security, and neither of those ever meant never having to say you’re sorry.
Love was in its own category, the apple to the orange of the day-to-day bullshit of subletting, grade-fretting and teacher’s-petting. If you had...

spinnercat asked: Can I butt in with my APUSH advice? At least for memorizing presidents: You said to learn every 5th president. It can help a lot if to know that everybody that was elected in a year that ends in a 0 from 1840 to 1960 died in office xD Harrison (1840), Lincoln, Garfield, McKinley, Harding, FDR, Kennedy, and then Reagan (1980) broke the curse and didn't die in office. Well, it helped me a bit...

I’m SO HAPPY that the classical station has returned to the south bay :D Previously, I had to listen to that static-ridden 89.9 and 100.3 or whatever it was but now I can have HIGH QUALITY classical music in my car :3 So so pleased!
HELL YES. I gave up listening to 89.9, because the signal was so bad, so I’ve been listening to trashy music a lot more lately.

Opinions please!
I’m seriously thinking of getting short hair, but I’m not sure what style. I was looking at pixie cuts today and those are really cute actually. But I like short bobs too (above shoulder-length). GAH too many choices.
Any thoughts?

(Short) Rant on Summer Reading
I started Brown’s summer reading yesterday and now I’m about 50 (annotated) pages in. It is a ~350 paged nonfiction book titled Sons of Providence: the Brown Brothers, the Slave Trade, and the American Revolution and it’s exactly like the APUSH textbook, but all about Rhode Island and less random pictures. It comes with the same sleep-inducing side effects.
It’s somewhat...

WHY SMART PEOPLE ARE STUPID →
For more than five decades, Daniel Kahneman, a Nobel Laureate and professor of psychology at Princeton, has been asking questions like this and analyzing our answers. His disarmingly simple experiments have profoundly changed the way we think about thinking. While philosophers, economists, and social scientists had assumed for centuries that human beings are rational agents—reason was our...
